Washington has moved from words to sanctions over eastern DRC.
The US Treasury announced sanctions on 28 October 2026 against Rwanda's Ministry of Defence and Zigama Credit and Savings Society, accusing them of supporting M23, and called for a halt to that support and a withdrawal of troops from eastern DRC.
Sanctions test a peace deal, they do not replace it. The real measure will be what changes on the ground for civilians in North and South Kivu.
